I was beginning to get discouraged. I was 16 and ready for a job. I was about to get my license and I wanted to buy a car. Also, I still was using my iPod touch from like 7th grade. I was ready for a phone, but I knew I had to pay for it. On top of that, I was homeschooled and ready to make some friends!
But getting a job was proving harder than I expected. I had filled out 4 applications at places where I though I may be hired, and had received zero calls back. I wanted to trust God through the process, but it was hard. I knew He had a plan, it was just the waiting that was tough. I had this desire in my heart and I wanted God to give it to me now.
After a couple months of trying and receiving no calls back, I felt lead to fill out an application at Chick-fil-A (obviously God's prompting). I didn't want to work there! I knew a guy that had just gotten a job there, and I didn't want to look like I was following him, haha. Also, working at Chick-fil-A would mean working with so many peers, and getting to know them and being the "new girl" intimidated me. I mean, come on. I was a homeschooler. Lastly, it was busy and I thought I may not be able to keep up. But there was this feeling now that I needed to give it a shot and fill out an application.
So I did. And guess what! I got a call asking me to come in for an interview! Despite my mixed feelings, I was so excited! It ended up being a group interview and it was honestly a lot of fun. I met some great people. On Labor Day 2016 I got the call asking if I wanted the job. Of course I said yes!
Y'all, God is so faithful. I'm glad I walked through looking for a job, because it taught me so much about God's character, forced me to trust God, and has made me appreciate my job at Chick-fil-A so much more. And you know what? Those things I worried about aren't real issues now. I barely even see that guy AT ALL because we work different shifts. Also, working with my peers stretched my comfort zone and led me to meet some amazing people, including my current best friend. Lastly, Chick-fil-A is crazy busy, but I'm thankful for that. It makes the shift go by faster, haha. I seriously love my job so much, and I'm coming up on the 1 year anniversary of that phone call. I'm so grateful!
I wrote all of this to tell you that God is faithful. He knows your deepest desires and wants to see you fulfill His purpose for you. His plan may not be your plan. My plan wasn't His plan. But His plan is always better. It yields the greatest lessons, blessings, and joy than anything you could ever dream up. You can see God's fingerprints all over my story, and I'm positive when you look back over this situation in your life, you'll see His fingerprints all over yours as well.
Jesus is the giver of good gifts. He won't let your dreams go void if they came from Him. Like I said, it may not happen just as you hope, and may not be as soon as you hope. But He is faithful. You'll be more than satisfied with His plan.
In the meantime, focus on spending more time with Jesus and growing closer to Him. Learn how to do new things and be productive. Enjoy the life you have because you're not promised tomorrow.
To end, I want to leave you with some awesome verses on this topic!
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
