Sometimes you need fresh inspiration when you are trying to dress modestly. Today I wanted to show you three outfits using one of my favorite modest pieces- cardigans! I love how versatile they are, and they also cover your back side well ;) All three cardigans pictured are from Kohls that I've collected over the years. So let's get onto the outfits!
Outfit #1- Casual
For this outfit, I paired a solid white v-neck with a navy knit cardigan. I used some darker jeans, rolled them up, and wore black Keds! This is perfect for school, the movies, or just hanging out with friends.
Outfit #2- Between Casual & Dressy? idk haha
This outfit is a little dressier than the first. I wore a Scarlet & Gold shirt, which they sadly don't sell anymore, and a maroon cardigan. I wore a different pair of dark jeans, also rolled up, and wore some black flats! I actually wore this outfit to church today, except with the booties in the third outfit.
Outfit #3- Dressy
This outfit is definitely dressier, and I actually wore it on Easter last year (minus the shoes). I wore a Lauren Conrad silk tanktop with lace details and a cream cardigan, also with lace. I wore the same jeans as in outfit #2 and paired it with taupe booties I got for Christmas.
Well, there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this blog post and got some outfit inspiration. What are your favorite modest outfit ideas? Also, if you have any questions about the outfits, comment them below and I'd be happy to answer them!
Oh, and I'd like to thank my sister Jessica from @jessandJesus for taking these pictures for me ;)
Last Sunday I wore an outfit that I really liked, and thought it would be so fun to share it with you! I want to start doing Modesty Monday's here on the blog once in a while, and this is the first one.
I think this outfit is super cute and modest, and is great for many different settings! You could wear it to school, to a laid-back church (that's what I did), shopping, or out for dinner. You can dress it up or down. For example, I actually wore some dressier flats instead of the Keds to church, just so it wasn't super casual. It dressed it up a bit!
Where I got each piece:
Blue stud Lauren Conrad earrings: Kohls
State necklace: Marleylilly.com
Whit v-neck: Kohls
Denim button-up shirt: Belks
Lauren Conrad skinny jeans: Kohls
Black Keds: Kohls
Customize this outfit to use what you have! And now for the details:
And there you have it! This outfit is super easy to throw together and would look great on YOU ;)
pic creds to my sister @jessandjesus, model creds to me haha
Hey y'all! I had the privilege to interview Rebekah Baird from Hello Modesty! You can find her on Instagram here, and you can go to her blog here.
Hey wonderful friends, I'm Rebekah Baird from the great state of Texas. I come from a crazy-fun, big family! I am a follower of Jesus and a lover of good books, music, coffee and fashion! I run an adorable modest fashion blog encouraging girls to dress with style and class. My fun blog is called hellomodesty.com. I share some awesome modest, style inspiration every week.
1. What is the definition of modesty in your own words?
"Modesty is more than just wearing "modest" clothes and covering up your body. It's actually a picture of the gospel. Our clothes reflect our Creator. Back in the garden days, Adam and Eve were naked and without shame. Once they sinned, that all changed. They were no longer perfect. Christ gave clothes to Adam and Eve to symbolize their rebellion against Himself. Now, clothes still symbolize our original rebellion against God. We wear clothes in obedience to God's act in the garden. Clothes point to a bigger picture. They point to Christ! We should strive for modesty to honor God."
2. Why is modesty important to you?
"Modesty is important to me because I want to honor Christ with the body he gave me."
3. When did you begin realizing modesty was important to you?
"I have always grown up knowing about modesty, but only embraced it as my own in the last few years. As I got older, I really wanted to embrace modesty, realizing that it had more to do with the gospel than myself. Christ has shown me the importance of dressing modestly and the value of it."
4. What is your go-to modest outfit?
"Since I live in Texas, the summers can get quite hot. So, I have found that bermuda shorts are a great go-to for me. They're very easy, modest and totally adorable. I buy all my shorts from Old Navy. They have a great selection. I usually try to spice up an outfit like that with a feminine top and some fun sandals."
5. What are your tips on staying modest in this immodest world?
"Modesty is so overrated in our modern culture. People don't value it anymore. As a girl trying to honor Christ in the way I dress, it can be discouraging when modesty is "old-fashioned" or "out-of-style". What many people don't realize is that modesty and style can go hand-in-hand. That's why I started Hello Modesty...I want to inspire Christian girls to dress modestly while looking totally adorable in the process!"
6. What are your tips on staying modest during the hot summer months?
"I don't do a lot of layering in the summer because it just gets too hot. Wearing really fun shirts and shoes with basic jeans is a super easy way to stay cool and stylish in the summer."
7. What would you say to any girl wondering if they should begin to dress modestly?
"Modesty is a beautiful and wonderful thing for girls. It really expresses a humble heart before Christ. He is our creator and should get all our honor and respect, no matter what the culture says. Dressing modestly is something you will never regret."
8. Do you have a role model for dressing modestly? If so, who?
"I have done research and have not found very many bloggers who value both modesty and style. It's just a hard category that most people don't know how to fulfill. That is where I want to jump in and tell Christian girls that modesty is a beautiful and awesome thing. My blog (hellomodesty.com) is a place for girls to get inspired and encouraged to dress modestly, even when the culture says otherwise."
I hope y'all enjoyed reading that as much as I enjoyed interviewing her!
Staying modest in the hot summer months can be challenging. Sometimes it seems hopeless and you just want to give in to the cooler summer trends! But it IS possible. First, I want to look at why it's important to stay modest.
Reason #1: Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). God lives inside of us if we are Christians, and we need to glorify God with our bodies! Honestly, that makes me want to be modest. Our bodies aren't our own.
Reason #2: Guys are visual. I know you've probably heard that a bazillion times and you think, "Well, it's their fault if they look at my body and lust." That is true. But as Christian girls, we can help guys in their pursuit to honor God with their eyes and body. We don't want to be a stumbling block for them (1 Corinthians 8:9). It's their fault if they lust when we are covered up.
Before I give you some tips, I want to say a few things. First off, modesty doesn't mean we have to wear skirts that fall to the floor and turtle necks (but if that's your preference go for it!). You can be stylish and modest all at the same time. Second of all, you may have to sacrifice being cool just a little bit. But it's worth it! And last of all, modesty is more about what our heart looks like than what we actually wear. Why do you want to wear that bikini? Because it's cooler or you want to show off your body?
Tip #1: Find some skirts and dresses you love! If you find a light weight skirt or dress it is really much cooler than shorts or pants that stick to you. There are tons of super cute casual skirts and dresses!
Tip #2: Find some shorts you love! I personally wear shorts and think they are okay. I have struggled to find shorts I like that are modest though. The new fancy printed kind can be modest if they are long enough because they don't stick to you. Find some that you think are long enough and don't stick to you!
Tip #3: Wear cami's underneath shirts. If a shirt is too low, at the top or bottom, go for a layered look. Just make sure the cami comes up high enough and isn't too thick (it would be too hot!). This opens up a more diverse selection of shirts!
Tip #4: Swimsuits are such a controversial topic. I'm honestly still not sure about it all. In the past, I have tried to pick out a one piece or tankini that is modest. But now I'm not sure that's enough. I'm now thinking I should be covering more at the bottom of the swimsuit, and have been drawn to the shorts and skirts. Swim shirts with swim shorts would be an awesome modest option that I am seriously considering! Tip #5: Wear looser clothes. It's the same concept as the skirts. Looser is cooler ;) Just make sure it covers everything.
Tip #6: Accessorize. Keep outfits cute and stylish by wearing jewelry, cute shoes, or even a sun hat!
A lot of these tips you may have already known, but I wanted to encourage you. We as Christian girls aren't alone in the pursuit of modesty- we have each other!
I didn't state too much of my opinion, so if you have any questions please comment below! Also, do you have any tips on staying modest this summer? Please don't keep it to yourself! I will hopefully be posting modest outfits on here this summer.
