Dear anyone going back to school,
Why is it that summer always goes by so quickly? This past summer was the best summer of my life, but I don't even know where it went. Nonetheless, school is starting again, and it's time to get back on a schedule. I started school today, and I was reminded of why I was so ready for summer this past school year, haha!
But you know what? We can do this. School is honestly such a blessing, even if you don't see it that way. So many people across the world long to be able to read, write, and do basic math, but we are able to do so much more than that. Let's praise God for the ability to learn!
I remember last year there were times I was so overwhelmed by assignments due, essays to be written, and exams to take that I just wanted to give up. Ever been there? I bet you have. But something I'm learning is that things usually aren't as bad as they seem. Take a deep breath and a step back, and look at the big picture. You'll eventually get everything done. There's more to this life than stress, school, and due dates!
"From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
When we're faithful in the little things, it trains us to be faithful in the big things. So let's practice our faithfulness in school so that when we go out into the world, we can change it for Jesus. Who's with me? Let's do our best and glorify God!
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,"
Whether you're homeschooled, go to public school, or go to a private school, let's bring glory to God's name. We can do this!
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
PS: This is part of my #sljbacktoschool series on Instagram!
Last Sunday I wore an outfit that I really liked, and thought it would be so fun to share it with you! I want to start doing Modesty Monday's here on the blog once in a while, and this is the first one.
I think this outfit is super cute and modest, and is great for many different settings! You could wear it to school, to a laid-back church (that's what I did), shopping, or out for dinner. You can dress it up or down. For example, I actually wore some dressier flats instead of the Keds to church, just so it wasn't super casual. It dressed it up a bit!
Where I got each piece:
Blue stud Lauren Conrad earrings: Kohls
State necklace: Marleylilly.com
Whit v-neck: Kohls
Denim button-up shirt: Belks
Lauren Conrad skinny jeans: Kohls
Black Keds: Kohls
Customize this outfit to use what you have! And now for the details:
And there you have it! This outfit is super easy to throw together and would look great on YOU ;)
pic creds to my sister @jessandjesus, model creds to me haha
Hey y'all! I had the privilege to interview Rebekah Baird from Hello Modesty! You can find her on Instagram here, and you can go to her blog here.
Hey wonderful friends, I'm Rebekah Baird from the great state of Texas. I come from a crazy-fun, big family! I am a follower of Jesus and a lover of good books, music, coffee and fashion! I run an adorable modest fashion blog encouraging girls to dress with style and class. My fun blog is called hellomodesty.com. I share some awesome modest, style inspiration every week.
1. What is the definition of modesty in your own words?
"Modesty is more than just wearing "modest" clothes and covering up your body. It's actually a picture of the gospel. Our clothes reflect our Creator. Back in the garden days, Adam and Eve were naked and without shame. Once they sinned, that all changed. They were no longer perfect. Christ gave clothes to Adam and Eve to symbolize their rebellion against Himself. Now, clothes still symbolize our original rebellion against God. We wear clothes in obedience to God's act in the garden. Clothes point to a bigger picture. They point to Christ! We should strive for modesty to honor God."
2. Why is modesty important to you?
"Modesty is important to me because I want to honor Christ with the body he gave me."
3. When did you begin realizing modesty was important to you?
"I have always grown up knowing about modesty, but only embraced it as my own in the last few years. As I got older, I really wanted to embrace modesty, realizing that it had more to do with the gospel than myself. Christ has shown me the importance of dressing modestly and the value of it."
4. What is your go-to modest outfit?
"Since I live in Texas, the summers can get quite hot. So, I have found that bermuda shorts are a great go-to for me. They're very easy, modest and totally adorable. I buy all my shorts from Old Navy. They have a great selection. I usually try to spice up an outfit like that with a feminine top and some fun sandals."
5. What are your tips on staying modest in this immodest world?
"Modesty is so overrated in our modern culture. People don't value it anymore. As a girl trying to honor Christ in the way I dress, it can be discouraging when modesty is "old-fashioned" or "out-of-style". What many people don't realize is that modesty and style can go hand-in-hand. That's why I started Hello Modesty...I want to inspire Christian girls to dress modestly while looking totally adorable in the process!"
6. What are your tips on staying modest during the hot summer months?
"I don't do a lot of layering in the summer because it just gets too hot. Wearing really fun shirts and shoes with basic jeans is a super easy way to stay cool and stylish in the summer."
7. What would you say to any girl wondering if they should begin to dress modestly?
"Modesty is a beautiful and wonderful thing for girls. It really expresses a humble heart before Christ. He is our creator and should get all our honor and respect, no matter what the culture says. Dressing modestly is something you will never regret."
8. Do you have a role model for dressing modestly? If so, who?
"I have done research and have not found very many bloggers who value both modesty and style. It's just a hard category that most people don't know how to fulfill. That is where I want to jump in and tell Christian girls that modesty is a beautiful and awesome thing. My blog (hellomodesty.com) is a place for girls to get inspired and encouraged to dress modestly, even when the culture says otherwise."
I hope y'all enjoyed reading that as much as I enjoyed interviewing her!
