Hey Hey lovely people! I am so glad you are here reading this! God really spoke to me. I had a complete other topic planned out and at about 3:00 p.m. today. I felt like I wasn't supposed to finish writing my other post. So I started this! Anyways, enjoy!! Leave a comment I love to hear from you guys! -Makyna
Your thoughts matter. What you believe about yourself matters. What you think is lovely matters. What you have to say matters. What you think is admirable matters. All these things matter because YOU matter. Because you were created by a God that has marked you for kingdom purpose.
But above all our thoughts are to honor God. We are supposed to think on things that are true to God, noble in God’s eyes, right and pure in God’s heart, lovely and admirable to him, think on these things. So that person bullying you, you have no reason to believe what they say because it doesn’t live up to what God says or scripture shows you. Those thoughts of insecurity, not being enough, not being pretty enough, skinny enough, not being whatever... Those thoughts are NOT true! And I know God hasn’t spoken those lies over you! Trust me I know that it is sometime easier to believe the lies but in the end it doesn’t help anything. When we choose to believe the lies that we don’t measure up and think about our insecurities. Then we end up forfitting noble thoughts. Noble thoughts are thoughts of courage, generosity, strength, dignity, and integrity. But we now don’t think these thought because we believed one small lie about ourselves that isn’t ever close to true. What are lovely thoughts.. thoughts like, “I am created by a God who loves me for me!” Thoughts of truth. These are lovely thoughts. When your thoughts line up with “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable -if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think on such things. Philip 4:8 When your thoughts are like the verse about you begin to believe what God says about you! When our thoughts are in line with Jesus our life begins to shift and you feel a lot better about yourself! You matter and your thoughts matter!
Let’s be people that believe the truth about ourselves, that think on things that honor God, and ultimately think on things that make us draw closer to God. You are awesome! I KNOW YOU MATTER! You mean the world to God and to me! Think on these things! Replace the lies with truth!
My DTS Experience
Hey! Here is a blog by @coffeewithrach ! She is sharing her experience with YWAM and how that changed her! Enjoy! ~Makyna
I just got back from doing a DTS (discipleship training school) with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and it was absolutely life changing. Grab a cup of coffee and read about what the Lord took me through!
Before...The Lord called me to YWAM in such a kind, gentle, but loud way. He knows each of us very well and because of that He had to give me a million and 4 signs and confirmation that I am supposed to be at YWAM. At the time, I was pursuing some type of career in fitness and this fitness DTS popped out right in front of me. The Lord had me apply immediately and pray about it for the next two months. During those two months, I heard from God more than I ever have in my entire life!
I was in this small group at the time that was just starting to go through a book study. The book we felt like we needed to read was Chase The Lion by Mark Batterson. During the first few pages there was life changing quotes that gave me so much revelation of who Jesus is & affirmation of my prayers. One of which being, "A God sized dream will be beyond your ability, beyond your resources. Unless God does it, it can't be done. And that is precisely how God gets the glory. He does things we can't do so we can't take credit for them."
So that means, we have to step out in obedience and trust the Lord with what He's calling us to because there is no way we could make it happen ourselves. DANG! Well, long story short- I said yes and throughout the next few months the Lord had revealed more and more reasons why I should be going while also preparing me.
During: So I was in Kona, Hawaii for three months and then in the Himalayas for three months. I thought I was going there to know how to use fitness for my ministry but I was so wrong. I got there and the Lord told me that my career path won't have anything to do with fitness or health. So I asked why I was there then. He told me that He had me there because all the lies that I had believed about myself have stemmed from my old soccer days. He wanted to put me into a situation where I was in a group of people that had a focus on fitness so I could be healed of so much. He brought up all the old lies that I believed about myself through the group I was in. The first three months, God revealed all the lies that I had believed about myself and replaced the lies with truth and really spoke into identity/who I was. He pulled out all the old roots of my past and planted all new seeds of truth & His love.
Then we left for outreach. We got there and I was hit with so much spiritual warfare, entitlements, fear, and sickness. The Lord graciously brought me through all of that with so much kindness and patience. I got to do a lot of coffee shop ministry when we were in the city and went to one coffee shop in specific. Throughout my time there, I had become friends with all the baristas, shared the gospel multiple times with them and showed them the love of Jesus. Along with ministry, the Lord also taught me how to have friendships with guys. For my whole life I had struggled with how to connect in a healthy way with guys and that resulted in a lot of hurt and mistakes. But the Lord redeemed so much of that and gave me a few amazing guy friends.
Then we went in the Himalayas to trek bibles to remote villages who have never heard then name of Jesus before. These two weeks of trekking were the hardest days of my life. I had absolutely no comfort, not even in the people I was around. I had the same dirty clothes, a lot of physical pain, no hot water, and no showers. My only source of comfort were the snickers bars that I had. I had learned how to love my brothers and sisters in Christ even when they didn't show their love in the way I am used to. I also learned that God gives us the community we need, not what we want. Ultimately, God's plan for everything in our life is what ends up being the best and exactly what we need.
After: I have walked away from DTS realizing how faithful God is and how He fulfills ALL of His promises to His children. Everything He spoke before going to Kona- it was fulfilled. Everything He spoke before leaving to the Himalayas- fulfilled and more! Also, one of the biggest revelations I had throughout all of this was this: When we have simple/ radical obedience to where the Lord calls us- He will exceed your wildest dreams. He wants us all to have a fun, meaningful life that is glorifying Him but that can't happen to the fullest potential if we don't say yes! If we are constantly making excuses for why we can't say yes- then we'll live a life anchored by fear.

Hello Lovely People! Today's blog post is from a friend over at @saltandlightblog_ I hope you all are as blessed as I was when I read this! Enjoy and leave a thought in the comments! And go give @saltandlightblog_
a follow! ~Makyna
Hi ya’ll! Makyna asked me to share why I have my blog, Salt and Light, and how I stay passionate for and follow the Lord! I’m so happy to be sharing a bit of my story with you all today!
To start off, I want to explain how and why I started my blog, Salt and Light. I started Salt and Light in the summer of 2016. I had been wanting to start a blog for a while, but was unsure about it. During the spring time, I had written some articles for a friend’s Christian girls newsletter, which she stopped doing a little while afterwards. A little while later, someone I know started a blog, and that reminded me of the desire to start one. So, I decided to go for it! While brainstorming a name, I thought of one of my favorite songs, Salt and Light by Lauren Daigle. Thus, I decided to name it Salt and Light and the name stuck! Since that time, I have been blogging and sharing what Yahweh puts on my heart. It has been such an amazing journey to see Him use my blog to inspire, encourage, and challenge people all across the world! He is so faithful and good to use us as we faithfully follow Him.
The purpose of my blog/Instagram/Facebook is to encourage people, boys, girls, adults, teens, whomever, to follow the Lord with passion and to be salt and light to the world. I believe each and every one of us has so much purpose and potential, if we only choose to live our lives for the Lord. I post encouragement for living out the Word, seeking Jesus, and other things that He puts on my heart.
It’s funny that Makyna asked me how I stay passionate for the Lord, because lately He has been challenging me at a deeper level to have a passion for Him and be unashamed in His Name. The first, and most important way, that I stay passionate for Him is by reading the Word and praying in the morning. To be honest with you, I struggle with doing this first in the morning, because my phone can be such a temptation. I have noticed, however, that when I choose to resist the devil and his tempting, and spend time with my Father first thing, I find joy and contentment. I find my heart finds fulfillment in Him, and it’s such a beautiful thing. It’s in my time with Him that I learn and grow, and talk to the One whom my soul was designed to love.
Another way I stay passionate for the Lord is by choosing to use my time wisely. Again, I am so not perfect at this and struggle so much. One thing I’ve begun doing lately is replacing some TV time with reading good Christian books and watching encouraging Youtube videos, mostly by one of my favorite ministries, Rise on Fire. I also love listening to good worship music, because it really gets my soul pumped up for Jesus! A few singers I really love are David Baloche, Shane + Shane, and Housefires.
Memorizing Scripture also really fans the flame in my heart for my Father. It reminds me of the amazing Truths from His Word and fills my soul with beautiful Truth! And lastly, talking to good Christian friends helps me stay passionate for the Lord and always encourages me!
The last thing I want to share with you all is something God has been personally showing me and challenging me with. In regards to how I serve the Lord, I love blogging, sending letters and texts of encouragement to friends/family, and occasionally doing fun random acts of kindness! However, the Lord has been showing me to use EACH DAY as an outreach. Let me explain: let’s say I’m spending the day at home with family. It might not seem like a chance to reach out to others, right? Well, it actually is! I can choose to be attentive to my family when we’re talking together, and spend time with them, and joyfully do chores and things to help out! Or maybe you’re going to the store for your weekly grocery trip, or to the library to pick up a few books. We can make the most of this by choosing joy and looking people in the eye when we see them and smiling, and genuinely asking them how they’re doing. When we choose to be intentional to love and to reach out to others, the Lord sees that. When we’re willing to be His vessel of love in whatever situations He places us TODAY, He can use us in mighty ways. Don’t be afraid to shine the light and love of Yeshua Jesus! Get excited about who He is and let it show! We were not meant to hide the light He gives, but let it shine. You and I are meant to be salt and light, and why would we waste a day? Use your life and your every day for His glory, whether that be in a simple act of kindness, or a big outreach project. Be faithful in the BIG and small things, and He will see you and bless you for it.
Luke 16:10 // He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
Matthew 5:13-16 // “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men. You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Hi, lovely people! I’m oh so grateful to get to share something so near and dear to my heart with you today.
I’ve known Jesus for all of my life. In fact; you could actually say we’re pretty tight. ☺
To start off, I think when we are struggling with walking along side Jesus day in and day out, we need to remember it’s not something we HAVE to do, but something we GET to do.
The fact that we get to walk in life besides the Giver of Life Himself is something I’d consider a privilege. That’s where my passion lies, simple as that.
Life with Jesus is oh so sweet. And I’m going to share a little bit of what that looks like in my own life and how it may look in yours.
Joy vs. Happiness – when we walk in the things of this world, temporary things, we may be happy for a little bit, but its only when we anchor ourselves in the eternal things, and walk with Jesus, when we experience TRUE joy.
Those are 5 radical ways to walk with Jesus and how your life will change when doing so.
If you’re struggling to walk with Jesus, or don’t feel passionate to share Him with others, I encourage you to find others who are passionate. Surround yourself with people who live life with Jesus daily. Also, remember that we should consider it GREAT JOY that we get to do life with our Heavenly Father. And not only does He walk beside us, but He goes before us and He will NEVER leave us.
In Christ and Him Alone,
Happy Monday Beautiful People! I am so sorry that I've missed the last few Monday Blogs!
Today I want to share what I use to study and give you a few helpful site I use. I hope you find these helpful!
When studying I always make sure to have a notebook, journal, or sticky notes to write down ,my thought. And things that Jesus is telling me about the section I am studying. Along with something to write my thoughts and feelings down, I use colored highlighters. Each color shows me something different. When I write in my margins something I don't have enough room so I use different color sticky note that go along with the color of my highlighters. I also have colored pens that don't bleed through the paper. I'm sure you can find these at your nearest Christian book store, hobby lobby, and or on-line!
Here are a few websites and you-tubers that I find give good study tips
www.allthingsallisonmarie.com - Allison has a whole library of free resources that help with study tips, devotionals, and so much more!
www.thesoulscripts.com - Jordan's blog is SO helpful in studying as well as her you-tube channel (Jordanleedooley)
http://www.thedifferentgirl.com/ -Hannah has a few blog posts about studying.

1. because I struggled finding what I liked for the longest time.
2. I want to help you
3. I would LOVE to hear how you do it
Don't forget to comment and share YOUR favorite study tips.

For the longest time I couldn't find a highlighting "system" that I liked. I wanted to use color and I wanted verses to be colored because lets be honest I am a little bit of an organization freak. Anyways, after days, weeks, and months of trying to find something that was simple, and easy I came across Jordan Dooley's YouTube channel with a video on how she highlights and studies hers. I was all in. And I love it. Each color points to something different.
Blue: is the reference of a commentary or foot notes. Pink: Is something I need to do, like a commandment, how to spur someone on etc. Yellow: highlights part of that verse that standout to me, or something that WOWs me! I also use sticky notes so that if i don't have enough room on the page I can write it longer. This method works best with a journaling bible, but can be done with a normal Bible. You will just need to use more sticky notes. Here is the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=743Uu-HExio
Emma Mae Jenkins is one of my favorite bloggers, YouTubers, and encourages. I watched one of her video called "Practical Ways to Study God's Word." She challenges you to pick ONE verse doesn't have to be long, and study it for a week. For instance "The Lord is my shepard, I lack nothing." Psalms 23:1 Its eight words. Then when you wake up in the morning before you get out of bed "The Lord is my shepard, I lake nothing." When you are getting ready for school "The Lord is my Shepard, I lack nothing." During class, in the hall, at lunch "The Lord is My Shepard, I lack nothing." All through your day you say it. You can write it on note cards and stick them EVERYWHERE! By the end of the week you will learn a new verse. I challenge you to pick a verse. If I you choose a longer verse maybe take two weeks to learn it instead of a week.
What is one way you study the Bible? Share in the comments with me!
Wow, can you believe that 2018 is only a few hours away? I feel like we just started 2017. This year feels like it just went by in the blink of an eye? Does it feel that way to you? I am so excited to step in to a new year filled with a fresh start, new adventures and endless possibilities and opportunities.
I am SUPER excited to share with y'all the things I am trying for this year. Remember that it's NEVER to late to try something. Hope you enjoy!
Isn't it so easy to believe lies from the devil? I spent sometime this past year believing the lies from the devil, "I am not beautiful, not good enough, not as faith filled, and not as adventurous as others." I would look at people's Instagram profiles and say I am not as beautiful as them, or have numerous friends that travel the world (which I want to do). I would tell myself that I can't got to those places because "I don't have the money for that."
So I decided it was time to change my thinking because One, "Jesus made me fearfully and wonderfully made in his image." 2nd with a little saving, hard work, and putting forth an effort, I could travel in the places I desire to adventure. I created the board pictured below with the main things I am tell myself this year. I am choosing to speak them over my life in 2018. Telling myself, "I am beautiful, adventurous, faithful, a dreamer etc" I am choosing to step into the person that God created me to be. I hung this cork board next to my bed so that every morning and evening I can remind myself who Jesus made me to be.
In addition to my board, in April 2017 I was watching a live video with @jasistylee . She makes a memory jar with a mason jar and sticky notes! I started this right away. This jar sits on my night stand with a pack of sticky notes. Each night I write down a few things from the day that I am thankful or something that was my favorite part of the day (maybe I got a text from a friend, a boy, I get a 100% on a test, or a funny moment etc) and then I fold the sticky note placing it in the jar. Then I read them all New Years Eve. I am super excited to do this again. This is SO fun.
Remember that its never too late to put something into action. If you like these ideas I highly recommend trying these things. I also have a few goals of things that I'd like to do in the year of 2018. I pray that you would have a blessed 2018!
